MODx: search better and find quicker
with the Doc Finder
back to overview 1 Comments by Bogdan
Today is the day: after a longer period of development and beta testing, I am publishing the MODx module Doc Finder 1.0. I have developed it myself and it allows MODx users a quick AJAX driven search in the manager.
The idea
Initially, I got the idea from other Content Management Systems such as ExpressionEngine or Chameleon which are (not only) based on a document tree for their searches and selections of contents, but particularly focus on a quick AJAX driven search. It is obvious why: when dealing with big projects with hundreds or thousands of pages, a fold-out document tree is no longer a suitable tool for finding the right document.
Features
The features of version 1.0:
- quick AJAX driven search.
- search preferences are preserved for the current session.
- edit, view or open documents with just one click.
- the position of the document in the document tree is displayed.
- it is displayed in which template-variables the search parameter was found in.
- AND, OR or NOT can be used for the search.
- you can search in all template variables or only in particular ones.
Supported languages
Currently, Doc Finder is only available in English. After consulting Ryan Thrash, co-founder of MODx, Doc Finder might be available in the next MODx version and then accordingly with integrated assistance for all MODx supported languages.
Acknowledgement
I am grateful for Götz Hoffart’s suggestions, beta testing and SQL support. And I would like to thank Norina who has had to spent quite a few nights watching television on her own.
